Fan Terms: What is a "Fanspot", a "Prize" and a "Capsule toy"??

Here's the post about Fansclub's games centre I promised earlier:

The Japan "Fansclub" periodically releases new "Prizes" and "Capsule Toys" (which are different from those items that San-x releases for sale at the Rilakkuma Stores and Netshop) at "Fanspots" all over Japan.  "Fanspots" are actually amusement shops that provide information of fan "prizes" for cute Japanese characters such as Rilakkuma and more. In these shops, there are of course lots of the popular "prize" items, and enjoyable happenings or things like events or campaigns. You can check the list of "Fanspots" in Japan here and you can check the items released at the Fansclub page. These are the items released for the month of July. (and my lovely picnic Rilakkuma was released in May 2012!)

So what are "Prizes" and "Capsule Toys"?

"Prizes (プライズ)" are the various gifts that can be obtained from crane game machines and etc. that exist in amusement facilities such as a games centre.

It is a game in which various techniques are used to get the gifts in these game machines. The charm of the game is said to be that it depends on your ability and at 100~200yen per round of play, you are able to get something that does not seem to be able to be bought [presumably at stores outside] even after paying a high price.  

The exclusive gifts that are for amusement cannot be sold at general stores and still more, as a general rule, even popular items cannot be reproduced. Hence, they are very rare goods.

Products that have been won and out-of-stock are over. There is no re-stocking. In other words, if you see something at the game centre and you let it slip, you most probably will not be able to get your hands on it the second time. If you really like something, take note not to let it slip.

"Capsule Toys" are the toys that are put in capsules you can obtain from small vending machines that you insert coins into and turn the lever. (see pic on the left)

Compared with crane machines, technique is not required to obtain the gifts (i.e. toys inside the capsule). When you insert coins into the machines, a toy will definitely come out. However, you will not be able to know exactly what will come out and hence, getting your hands on something you want requires luck. 

It is extremely lucky if you can get what you want on first try! Even with that said, you will feel excited no matter how many times you try to be able to get you want. You are filled with unlimited possibilities of what will be inside the capsules. 

The original capsule machines are "Spilux" and "Spilux 2". They are machines that do not simply eject the capsules. They are well-designed with a high volume spherical clear case that allows the capsules to be viewed from up-down-left-right. They become structures that are able to show the enjoyable action of the capsules moving in a whirlpool while dropping out.

There! It's the one on the bottom right corner. There's a total of five of them and in Japan, I think they are only released in Fansclub game shops in Japan. I'll tell you more about the game shops in another entry soon!

I ♥ picnics! Warm sunshine... lush greenery... and now with Rilakkuma = Excellent! Maybe I should organise a picnic soon. (*Looks outside the window.. but it's raining!! ToT)

Rilakkuma is about slightly bigger than my palm.

If you buy Rilakkuma products, be sure to check they are the REAL STUFF. See the tag says that there are 5 designs in this group (which is true!), has a hologram stick at the back and a whole lot of information about the product. PLUS, remember - the tag is NEVER STUCK ON RILAKKUMA'S EAR (ouch. imagine how painful it is for Rilakkuma.)
